Orbital Micro Systems to Discuss Advances in Weather Data at Maritime Reconnaissance and Surveillance Technology Conference

Lead meteorologist Gregory Porter to share insights and use cases that detail improvements in operational awareness and weather forecasting

Boulder, Colorado, February 5, 2020 – Orbital Micro Systems (OMS), a leader in advanced instrumentation for small satellite missions and analysis-ready earth data intelligence platforms, announced that Gregory Porter, its chief meteorologist, will be a featured speaker at the Maritime Reconnaissance and Surveillance Technology Conference. The event takes place Feb. 5 and 6, 2020 at the Crowne Plaza St. Peter’s Hotel in Rome, Italy, and focuses on maritime Intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), with an emphasis on space-based maritime reconnaissance. OMS is a Gold Sponsor of the conference.

In his session, Porter will describe how OMS Global Environmental Monitoring System (GEMS) data is being gathered from low earth orbit, and then utilized to provide advanced insights into weather structures and events. He will also brief the audience on OMS’ activities with the U.S. Air Force to deliver critical information that improves mission planning and weather forecasting. The session is planned for Feb. 6 at 11:30 a.m.

OMS will launch additional GEMS satellites equipped with its miniaturized microwave radiometers in 2020, further increasing its capacity to collect and deliver unique earth observation data from its space-based assets. When fully complemented, the OMS constellation will provide global observation updates at intervals approaching 15 minutes.
