Boulder, Colorado, June 21, 2018 – Orbital Micro Systems (OMS), a leader in space system applications, advanced instrumentation for small satellite missions, and weather intelligence analytics, announced that Michael Hurowitz, the company’s chief technology officer, will speak about innovative technologies for delivering actionable weather intelligence at the NewSpace 2018 conference in Seattle. Taking place June 26 through 28 at the Hyatt Regency Lake Washington, the conference is produced by the Space Frontier Foundation, and is recognized for bringing together experts to discuss new opportunities in commercial space. Hurowitz will deliver a Quickfire session on Tuesday, June 26, at 3:00 p.m.
“Advances in instrument miniaturization and small satellite technologies, along with greater frequency of launch slots for LEO (Low Earth Orbit) deployments, are accelerating the commercial space opportunities for companies like Orbital Micro Systems,” said Hurowitz. “This represents a new era of scientific discovery that is fueled by market- and customer-driven needs. Successful companies will be judged not just on forward-thinking concepts, but also the ability to implement these in a competitive marketplace that demands business acumen as well as scientific and engineering prowess.”
Orbital Micro Systems provides data-driven weather intelligence derived from space-based instruments, as well as a variety of public and private earth observation missions and resources. Industries including air and maritime transportation, insurance, and agriculture will benefit from enhanced and correlated weather information that can immediately impact operational safety, fuel efficiency, and production rates.
The company is planning to launch its first CubeSat-based microwave radiometers in late 2018. Upon completion of its constellation of satellites, OMS will have detailed observations of temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure for any point on earth with a fifteen-minute revisit rate.
